During a show in Brooklyn, two members of The Smiths came together to perform ‘How Soon Is Now?’
At the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, Johnny Marr welcomed Andy Rourke on stage, telling the audience, “When I was 15, I started one of my first bands with my best friends. At that time, he was one of the best musicians I had ever encountered…we were just kids.”
“In 1982, I put together a band in Manchester and invited my best friend to join me on bass, and he was still one of the best musicians I had ever heard. Tonight, after 30 years, I’m inviting one of my closest friends up here…and he remains one of the best musicians I’ve ever known.”
However, Marr made it clear that even with the onstage reunion with Rourke, he had no plans to reform The Smiths. “I’ve been asked about a reunion probably around 8,936 times. I don’t mind though; I can see why people ask, even if they aren’t really listening to the answer. I just don’t want to be rude, so maybe I’ll start saying ‘Google it’ when asked.”
