Gorillaz have made an announcement regarding a forthcoming track titled ‘DoYaThing’, set to be released later this month.
This collaboration features Outkast’s Andre 3000 and LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy, and was created for Converse’s ‘Three Artists. One Song’ initiative, with availability as a free download from their website on February 23.
Previously, the ‘Three Artists. One Song’ campaign has successfully paired rapper Soulja Boy with Andrew WK and Matt And Kim, and in 2010 included another collaboration with Graham Coxon, Paloma Faith, and former The Coral guitarist Bill Ryder-Jones.
Additionally, Jamie Hewlett of Gorillaz has designed a new line of shoes for Converse to complement the track, and is also in the process of creating a related video. On the other hand, singer Damon Albarn has indicated that a 12-minute unedited version of the song may be released in the future.
To commemorate their ten-year anniversary last year, the band launched the extensive compilation ‘The Singles Collection: 2001 – 2011’. Furthermore, Albarn disclosed in November that he had been frequently meeting with Blur to record new tracks, while producer William Orbit suggested that the band might soon begin work on a new studio album.
The Britpop icons are set to perform together at this year’s Brit Awards, where they will receive the Outstanding Contribution To Music Award during the ceremony at the O2 Arena on February 21, 2012.
