Gaz from Supergrass glad to be solo

The former frontman of Supergrass, Gaz Coombes, expressed his relief over pursuing a solo career and stated that he doesn’t miss being part of a band.

Coombes is preparing to unveil his debut solo album titled ‘Here Come The Bombs’ on May 21, with a single called ‘Hot Fruit’ set to be released on May 14.

This marks the first new music from him since Supergrass announced their breakup in June 2010.

“I’m making the kind of music I want to make with my solo album,” Coombes remarked. “I don’t need to negotiate with a bandmate about the direction I want to take. At this moment, I’m not interested in being in a band or anything resembling one.”

He elaborated: “Due to my past experiences, I sometimes feel a bit anxious. I don’t wish to come across as negative since it was wonderful to spend 18 years with my bandmates whom I care for. Nevertheless, I’m content with what I’m doing now.”

The artist shared that the new album draws inspiration from the soundtrack compositions of John Barry and John Carpenter. “When it comes to experimenting with sounds, using synthesizers and searching for unique sounds, I turned to soundtracks,” he explained.

Coombes expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with Tim Burton on the project’s visuals. “He could create some amazing, eccentric animations for it,” he stated.

Discussing the track ‘Sub Divider’, Coombes described it: “It consists of two distinct sections without a traditional verse or chorus. It’s one of my favorites and revolves around the theme of identity.”
