The BBC has selected Elbow to create the soundtrack for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Earlier this year, the band released their fifth album, ‘Build A Rocket Boys!’, and has now composed a six-minute track that will serve as the theme for all Olympic coverage aired by the BBC.
In an interview with BBC News, Guy Garvey, the frontman of Elbow, described the process of recording the track as “a real responsibility,” expressing that the band was “knocked out” by the opportunity to participate.
Garvey remarked: “We are thrilled to be involved, and it has posed quite a challenge. We feel a profound sense of responsibility, knowing we will be the soundtrack to countless images of personal sacrifice and endeavor while the nation cheers for and celebrates with Team GB.”
Previously, Garvey mentioned that Elbow has started working on the follow-up to ‘Build A Rocket Boys!’, though he has not specified when they anticipate completing or releasing their sixth studio album.
