For the past year, she’s embraced the role of a devoted mother while stepping away from the pop spotlight.
However, as recently demonstrated by Britney Spears, a good pop star cannot remain dormant for too long.
The singer took the stage in Las Vegas last week, marking her first live performance since concluding The Circus Starring Britney Spears tour in November 2009. If she had any concerns about being a bit out of practice for her return, she certainly didn’t let it show, exciting her fans immensely.
At 29, Britney dazzled her audience once more as she confidently walked on stage wearing a daring black leather bodysuit that accentuated her curves.
She appeared to nearly overflow from the outfit while delighting her enthusiastic fans with a preview of songs from her forthcoming album Femme Fatale.
The mini concert kicked off with a montage of her best video highlights, energizing the crowd, before she launched into her new single, Hold It Against Me, flanked by dancers in army fatigues. A highlight for fans was the debut performance of Big Fat Bass, a track produced by will.i.am, remixed to include snippets of her classic hits such as Slave 4 U and Gimme More.
Clearly relishing her return to the limelight, Britney beamed and danced for her audience as she performed her second single from the album, Till The World Ends.
As the show neared its conclusion, she was seen gyrating atop large speakers placed around the stage.
At one moment, she even stood on a podium before quickly changing into a shimmering silver bodysuit while the name of her new album flashed in neon letters overhead.
There were whispers suggesting Miss Spears might have lip-synced parts of three songs, but the crowd of 700 seemed oblivious or unconcerned.
This show was recorded for an MTV special scheduled to air next week, turning out to be an unexpected treat for her fans who anticipated her live comeback in San Francisco the following evening.
The Las Vegas performance was meant to remain under wraps, but after rumors circulated, Britney took to Twitter on Friday to declare, ‘Looks like my little secret isn’t a secret anymore…You’re all invited. Be there or be square, bitch!’
It’s delightful to see that she hasn’t lost her signature lip-syncing flair.
