Blur are recording a new album

Damon Albarn has confirmed that Blur have been meeting “regularly” and recording once again.

During an interview, the Gorillaz frontman disclosed that the Britpop band collaborated with poet Michael Horovitz earlier this year to record a spoken word piece.

This track was created as a reaction to the potential cancellation of this year’s Notting Hill Carnival. Albarn was somewhat secretive regarding the release of the track, stating, “If they’d have cancelled the carnival…and thank God they didn’t…maybe we’d have put it out. It had its moment…it was a perfect plea to reinstate the carnival. So it wasn’t relevant…well, it was relevant for about 12 hours.”

He further expressed that playing with Blur still gives him an “amazing feeling” and teased possible plans for live performances with the band next year. However, he also shared that he is currently figuring out how to integrate Blur with his other musical endeavors.

Recently, Albarn performed his debut shows with Rocketjuice To The Moon – a new project featuring Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ Flea and Tony Allen – and has additional performances lined up with The Good, The Bad & The Queen later this month. Additionally, he released his [b]DRC Music side-project album last month.
