Due to an early posting of an event poster, Big Day Out has been compelled to announce its dates ahead of schedule. The poster also reveals that the initial lineup announcement is anticipated on Wednesday, July 31.
Originally, the posters were set to be displayed on Monday; however, one was inadvertently placed early beneath an overpass on Swan Street in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond. Johanna Greenway, the Big Day Out’s director of marketing and PR, confirmed the dates. “Posters were to go up Monday – guess now we’ll put them up everywhere. But at least everyone knows to save the date for line-up announcement,” she commented.
The upcoming Big Day Out will launch on Friday, January 17, in Auckland at its new venue, Western Springs, a natural amphitheatre located in the inner-city suburb of Grey Lynn. This site has previously hosted renowned acts such as Foo Fighters and AC/DC and can accommodate three stages and 50,000 attendees. Following Auckland, the event is scheduled to move to the Gold Coast (January 19), Melbourne (January 24), Sydney (January 26 and 27), Adelaide (January 31), and Perth (February 2). Currently, the Gold Coast’s Metricon Stadium is the only confirmed venue, whereas Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, and Perth remain listed as TBC.
