During a Shakira concert, fans were thrilled when the singer spontaneously invited her boyfriend to join her on stage for a dance tutorial.
The Colombian artist, aged 34, was in Gerard Pique’s hometown of Barcelona for a performance when she paused for an interlude featuring the footballer along with some of his teammates.
The routine culminated with Gerard embracing his girlfriend, who is ten years older than him, in front of her audience at the Lluis Campanys Olympic Stadium.
During the five-minute intermission, Shakira encouraged the Barcelona players to mimic her alluring dance moves, with mixed results.
Gerard was the first to be called on stage, greeting his girlfriend with a kiss and warm hug before joining her. The crowd responded with excitement when Shakira then invited players such as Xavi, Bojan Krkić, and Sergio Busquets to join her on stage in a line-up.
The players were likely in high spirits after parading the Champions League trophy around Barcelona earlier that day, celebrating their victory over Manchester United.
The somewhat awkward dance lesson commenced with the pop star performing in front of the footballers, showcasing her signature Shakira moves as the visibly embarrassed players tried to follow suit.
“Follow me, it’s very easy,” she instructed, swaying her hips while wearing a gold mesh top, leggings, and knee-high boots.
At one point, she asked the women in the audience, “Do you ladies want more?” which elicited a passionate response.
The players attempted one final round of dance moves before concluding the lesson.
Pique then embraced Shakira once again before leaving the stage, wrapping his arms around her from behind, while the footballers returned to their seats in the front row, where Busquets fell down clutching his face.
Shakira and Pique, who previously played for Manchester United, met while filming the music video for her song Waka Waka (This Time for Africa), which was the official anthem for the 2010 World Cup held in South Africa, won by Spain.
In January, Shakira announced her split from Argentine lawyer Antonio de la Rua after an 11-year relationship, and soon after, rumors circulated about her relationship with Pique.
She confirmed their romance in March by posting a photo of them together on Twitter with the caption, “I present to you my sunshine.”
Since then, she has shifted her football loyalties from Real Madrid to Barcelona, attending several matches at the Nou Camp and celebrating their victory over Manchester United during her performances in Barcelona that weekend.
A four-time Grammy award winner, Shakira performed on Sunday as part of her Sale el sol (The Sun Is Coming Out) tour, which includes stops at various Spanish venues, with Madrid scheduled for June 3.
