Yesterday, Japan’s Jiroemon Kimura, recognized as the world’s oldest living person, marked his 116th birthday, receiving accolades from various corners of the globe, including the Prime Minister of Japan.
Last December, Guinness World Records named Kimura as the world’s oldest person following the passing of 115-year-old Dina Manfredini from Iowa, USA.
In a video message, Prime Minister Shenzo Abe expressed, “I truly congratulate you on your 116th birthday.”
He added, “At 58 years old, I’m still a young man, merely half your age. Your generation’s contributions have enabled Japan to navigate numerous challenging times, leading to the prosperity we enjoy today. Your continued good health inspires confidence and pride in us.”
Yasushi Nakayama, the Mayor of Kyotango City, visited Kimura in his home located in western Japan to deliver messages from across the globe.
According to local media sources, Kimura resides with his 60-year-old granddaughter-in-law and follows a daily diet that includes rice, pumpkins, and sweet potatoes.
As per data from the 2011 government, Japan is home to over 50,000 centenarians, further solidifying its reputation for longevity.
Additionally, the country is proud to claim the title of having the longest-living woman in the world, 115-year-old Misao Okawa.
