Thousands of men who claim to be victims of domestic violence are actually wife beaters themselves, a new study has revealed.
One in five husbands who called a helpline turned out to be the aggressor…not the victim.
Many use minor injuries inflicted by partners defending themsleves to fight prosecution.
A network of ‘safe houses’ for male victims was launched last year after a huge rise in he number of battered husbands.
But a survey found up to 500,000 ‘beaten’ men are bogus and are hindering attempts to bring thuggish husbands to justice.
A spokesperson for the Battered Wives Group Trust said, “False allegations make life difficult for all men and women who are genuinely affected”.
