According to a saying, elephants possess an incredible memory – and these elephants will never forget the moment Briton Paul Barton played Beethoven for them.
To raise funds for blind elephants, 50-year-old Mr. Barton transported his piano up a mountain in Kanchanaburi, Thailand.
He shared, ‘This was a present to myself for my 50th birthday. My wife and I have been involved with blind elephants for many years, and I thought they might enjoy listening to music.
‘I sat down and pondered, what would you play for an elephant?
‘Time was limited, so I began sifting through my books, and then Slow Movement 2 from Beethoven’s Pathetique Sonata resonated with me.
‘Dragging the piano up a mountain was tough – my back is in bad shape, but I wanted to make this effort to feel as if I had taken on a personal challenge.’
Having been born in Yorkshire, Paul now aspires to host a concert featuring the elephants to generate funds for an electric fence for their sanctuary.
