Revolutionizing high fashion, a young designer from the German city of Hanover is crafting garments using an ingredient she has in her refrigerator – milk.
At the age of 28, Anke Domaske has created a fabric known as QMilch, which is derived from high concentrations of the milk protein casein. This innovative fiber is the first man-made material created entirely without the use of chemicals.
“It feels like silk and it doesn’t smell — you can wash it just like anything else,” Domaske explains.
Composed of entirely natural materials, the ecological QMilch fabric also boasts numerous health benefits, as stated by Domaske. She noted that the amino acids found in the protein possess antibacterial and anti-aging properties, and can aid in regulating blood circulation and body temperature.
Domaske’s fashion brand, Mademoiselle Chi Chi, is now incorporating the milk fiber into its collection, gaining popularity among celebrities such as Mischa Barton and Ashlee Simpson.
