Scarlett Johansson is set to portray Janet Leigh in an upcoming film centered on the horror classic Psycho.
The actress will feature in Sacha Gervasi’s direction of Alfred Hitchcock And The Making Of Psycho, with James D’Arcy taking on the role of actor Anthony Perkins.
The movie is inspired by Stephen Rebello’s non-fiction narrative, detailing Hitchcock’s challenges in financing his 1960 horror film, which faced skepticism and disapproval during its time.
This project has been in development for several years, originally initiated at Paramount by Glee creator Ryan Murphy before it was handed over to Gervasi. Anthony Hopkins is set to portray Hitchcock, while Helen Mirren will play his wife, Alma Reville.
Reports indicate that the film has been likened to My Week With Marilyn, with expectations that the role of Janet Leigh may afford Johansson similar award opportunities as Michelle Williams experienced for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe.
Recently, Johansson appeared in Cameron Crowe’s We Bought A Zoo.
