Although he may have tied the knot with pop sensation Katy Perry, his background has not always been flawless.
Indeed, his formative years were plagued by substance abuse and sexual misadventures, with him even stating recently that group sex resembled an Olympic event.
The transformed womanizer candidly discussed group sex, remarking: ‘There are particular practical aspects to consider. More than just me being the neutral party, if three others join in, it essentially turns into a chaotic French farce with door slamming and plates spinning—there’s just too much happening, managing that scenario becomes akin to an Olympic challenge, and even the pleasure diminishes a bit.’
He went on to add, ‘The first Russell Brand Easter hot tub party was pure chaos; that’s certainly not how to celebrate Easter.’
The British comedian has also shared insights about his struggle with drug addiction, disclosing that he frequently depended on drug-induced euphoria merely to cope with daily life.
He expressed, ‘It was intense for me, as if I required it (drugs) or was seeking to address inner issues externally; I viewed it like medicine, believing it could somehow heal me.’
However, during an interview with Piers Morgan on the Life Stories show, he admitted to having no regrets about his past drug use.
He conveyed to Piers, ‘Not really; it was a foolish period. Naturally, I harmed many individuals around me, and I feel embarrassed and saddened by those actions.’
The comedian elaborated on how it was actually his manager who urged him to seek help, insisting he required professional assistance.
Russell recalled, ‘Yeah, shortly after John told me, “you’re fucking going,” he somewhat compelled me, and for the first time, I stood on my own two feet.’
He further recounted the experience, saying, ‘I transitioned from being a little kid to a drug addict, without any pause to contemplate whether it was wise or not.’
Additionally, he shared how, presently, he finds it easy to decline drugs, stating, ‘Not really, as it’s a significant aspect of my life—if someone offers me a line, I simply say no thank you.’
Russell, who married pop princess Katy Perry the previous year, has also opened up about coping with his mother’s cancer scares during his upbringing.
When asked if he worried about his mother’s health, he replied, ‘I did have those thoughts; I was a bit frightened. At seven, you’re quite childish, naturally. I was clearly scared and concerned but my mother managed to be incredibly strong for me, especially at 11 as well.’
‘However, by the time I reached 16 or 17, I became a bit unhinged. I thought, “This is it, it’s just me now,” and I probably didn’t believe I had the necessary tools to navigate life since I was a bit of a nutter.’
While Katy was enjoying herself in L.A. celebrating Rihanna’s birthday, Russell made his way to Sydney, Australia.
He recently tweeted, ‘I’m in Australia – the Essex of the world. I feel at home. Plus my criminal record is NOTHING here.’
