Following the death of his brother Andrew, who passed away at the age of 54 after a battle with kidney cancer, Katie Price has expressed her support for her ex-husband Peter Andre via Twitter.
Andrew died in the early hours of Sunday morning, with Peter and his family present at his bedside.
Katie, the mother of Princess and Junior, who are Andrew’s niece and nephew, reportedly reconciled with Peter by tweeting: ‘My thoughts are with the Andre family at this difficult time.’
After three-and-a-half years of marriage, Katie and Peter ended their relationship in May 2009.
Numerous friends from the entertainment industry have offered their condolences and support to Peter during this challenging period.
Andrew received his kidney cancer diagnosis in February and was initially responding well to treatment before his condition deteriorated last month.
Recently cancelling his tour dates to devote time to his brother, Peter welcomed Andrew, along with his wife and daughter, into his home in England for care and treatment, and frequently featured him in his reality TV show.
A representative for Peter, who was by Andrew’s side during his passing, noted: ‘Peter is devastated. He was incredibly close to his brother. This loss is the first family tragedy he has faced. He simply needs time to grieve.’
A statement from Peter’s management on Twitter at that moment indicated: ‘With great regret, Peter Andre has postponed his remaining December 2012 tour dates.’
‘With Andrew’s health taking a turn for the worse, Peter has opted to be with him and his family during this time.’
Peter has rearranged the remaining five dates of his 2012 tour.
He recently shared in his magazine column updates about his brother’s outlook on treatment.
‘He’s still undergoing chemotherapy, but as always, he’s being incredibly strong.
‘I had the chance to spend the day with him and Mike (another brother) at the Royal Marsden Hospital last Tuesday, and it was wonderful to have us all together.’
Andrew traveled to the UK from Australia within weeks of his February cancer diagnosis to be with his family during treatment.
Since spring, Andrew and his wife Magda had been living with Peter and his children, Junior and Princess, at Peter’s residence.
When informed by doctors that Andrew had little time left, Peter expressed it was the ‘worst possible end to the year.’
According to a source speaking to new!, ‘He is inconsolable. This outcome was unexpected. Everyone is attempting to comfort him, but no one can ease his pain.’
Andrew’s illness has been devastating for Peter, who reflected on the changes he witnessed in his brother while filming Peter Andre: My Life.
He shared, ‘I’ve watched my brother transform from strong — a two, three jobs a day kind of person — to struggling to walk. I’ve seen it firsthand. I live with it. He’s in my home and I cherish his presence, but I suppose I, too, wasn’t ready for how heart-wrenching this could be.’
