Skyfall has been confirmed as the title of the 23rd James Bond film.
For the third time, Daniel Craig will take on the role of 007. Confirmed as leading ladies are Naomie Harris and French actress Berenice Marlohe. Sam Mendes, who won an Oscar for American Beauty in 1999, is directing Skyfall.
Mendes has revealed that the storyline will take the secret agent to various locations including London, China, Turkey, and Scotland.
In this installment, Bond’s loyalty to his superior, M, will be put to the test as MI6, the espionage headquarters, comes under attack.
This film also marks the return of Dame Judi Dench as M, alongside Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney, and Javier Bardem, who will portray the villain.
Much speculation surrounds Mendes’ approach to the new film, with some wondering if the director will scale back or entirely eliminate the action sequences.
However, Mendes has refuted these claims, stating to reporters that the “fantastic script” contains “all the elements of a classic Bond movie, including – to quell any rumours – lots of action.”
When queried about what fans should anticipate from the upcoming film, he stated: “The movie will reveal everything, and there are plenty of surprises.”
Producer Barbara Broccoli mentioned that no one has been selected yet to write and perform the Bond theme tune.
The film is set for release in October 2012.
