For the first time, Matt Damon has addressed rumors suggesting that he and Ben Affleck were once involved romantically.
In a revealing interview, the 42-year-old actor directly tackles the allegations, stating that they are false.
The actor explains that he chose to ignore the rumors instead of denying them, as he wanted to avoid offending anyone.
He remarked: “I never denied those rumours because I didn’t want to offend my friends who were gay…as if being gay were some kind of disease.
“It put me in a weird position in that sense. The whole thing was just gross.”
Matt, who is a father to three daughters and a stepdaughter with his wife Luciana Barroso, has recently completed a project where he portrayed Liberace’s young lover, Scott Thorson.
In Behind The Candelabra, he and Michael Douglas, who plays the extravagant pianist, share intimate moments in several scenes.
Matt noted: “We both have a lot of gay friends and we were not going to screw this up or bullshit it.
“It wasn’t the most natural thing in the world to do, though. Like, for one scene, I had to come out of a pool, go over to Michael, straddle him on a chaise longue and start kissing him.
“And throughout the script, it’s not like I kiss him just once. We drew it up like a football plan.”
