Lindsay Lohan has acknowledged her struggle with alcohol addiction and her past experiences with cocaine use.
In a revealing interview with Oprah Winfrey, Lindsay admits to having an issue with alcohol, stating she has tried cocaine “10-15 times.”
Previously, Lindsay claimed to have used the drug only 3 or 4 times.
“Are you an addict?” Oprah questions Lindsay during the interview that aired in the U.S. last night, to which Lindsay responds, “Yeah.”
“What is your drug of choice?” Oprah probes further.
“Alcohol,” the actress, who has recently completed her sixth rehabilitation stint, replies, acknowledging its role in her past:
“In the past, that was a gateway to other substances… I combined cocaine with alcohol. But to be honest, I’ve really only used it 10 to 15 times,” Lindsay confesses.
“Initially, I said three or four times. I was scared of being judged… [But] the reality is I’ve done it 10 to 15 times.”
The 27-year-old then articulates how her cocaine use was often linked to her drinking habits.
“[Cocaine] allowed me to drink more,” she explains to Oprah. “I believe that’s why I used it during those times. It was part of the party scene.”
“Did you snort it? Inject it? Smoke it?” Oprah inquires.
“Oh, absolutely not. I snorted it,” Lindsay clarifies.
Nevertheless, in this eagerly awaited interview, Lindsay emphasizes that those days are behind her, stating she is ‘healing’ and actively trying to better herself.
Following her recent exit from her sixth rehabilitation program at the Betty Ford clinic, Lindsay was asked about what differentiates this experience.
“This time, I’m committed to making a real change,” Lindsay asserted.
“I just need to listen and keep quiet. During rehab this time, I wasn’t resisting at all,” she shared, reflecting on her previous misconceptions about what worked for her.
“I’ve hit a wall,” she shared. “I’m simply exhausted. When I spoke to Shawn Holley [Lindsay’s attorney], I just said, ‘I think the best option is to go to treatment and take care of myself, to discover who I am.’ I entered this with a genuine willingness [this last time].”
Moving forward, the actress is required to attend weekly therapy sessions for the next 15 months due to a court mandate from a reckless driving incident and has also hired a ‘sober coach’ to help her maintain her sobriety.
