A court petition has been filed by Jermaine Jackson to change his name.
The elder brother of Michael Jackson is requesting permission from the court to alter his well-known last name to Jermaine Jacksun. In Los Angeles, he submitted a petition for the name change, stating that this decision is for “artistic reasons.”
According to Steve Dennis, a friend of Jackson who spoke on his behalf: “Phonetically, it changes nothing.” He also remarked: “It’s a choice he has made, and you can’t pin this one on the boogie; it has to be attributed to the sunshine,” in reference to the Jackson 5’s song ‘Blame It On The Boogie.’
A hearing will take place on February 22, 2013, in LA to determine whether or not Jackson will officially adopt the surname Jacksun.
In the meantime, discussions continue among other members of the Jackson family regarding the validity of Michael Jackson’s will. Janet, his sister, asserts that it’s impossible for the singer to have signed the documents in LA on June 7, 2002, given that he was in New York with family friend Al Sharpton during that time.
