Don’t label Gillian, even if she is a lezzer

The former star of X-Files has candidly discussed her teenage lesbian flings, yet it appears that Gillian Anderson is hesitant to label her ‘fluid’ sexuality.

The mother of three, who has been married twice, stated that the passing of an ex-girlfriend has made her realize the importance of a ‘more nuanced conversation about sexuality and its fluidity’.

This year, the 43-year-old revealed for the first time that she had relationships with women.

In a recent interview, the X-Files star shared: ‘I was discussing with Out the topic of gays and choice, and the notion that one can choose to not be gay in some capacity.

‘I felt compelled to share this now because a woman I had a relationship with a couple of decades ago passed away about a year back.’

‘While reminiscing about her, during the gentle conversation we were having, I thought it was the right moment to mention that I’ve had a few relationships with women.’

However, she went on to say: ‘I always knew I was still attracted to boys. Identifying as gay was never something I fully embraced, as I recognized it wasn’t my only orientation.’

‘Many teenagers are bewildered about their sexuality, and I recognize the importance of being open about fluid sexuality.’

Miss Anderson, who will be seen in the upcoming thriller Shadow Dancer, experienced lesbian flings while attending high school in Michigan.

She has three children: Piper, 17, from her initial marriage to Clyde Klotz, who was an assistant art director on The X-Files. Piper has predominantly lived in Vancouver with her father, but is currently at an English boarding school.

In December 2004, Miss Anderson wed documentary filmmaker Julian Ozanne in the village of Shella on Lamu, an island off the coast of Kenya, but they announced their separation in April 2006.

She is now the mother of two sons, Oscar, five, and Felix, three, from her relationship with Mark Griffiths.
