On Friday night, in Las Vegas, Paris Hilton was arrested for cocaine possession while she was in her car.
She was held at Clark County Detention Center on a charge of possession of cocaine.
Although she was later released, the police did not disclose when she would appear in court.
According to police spokesman Lt Marcus Martin, the 29-year-old socialite was a passenger in a car that was stopped after officers detected suspected marijuana smoke emanating from it.
Lt Martin stated that, during the search, officers discovered what seemed to be a controlled substance on Miss Hilton. Tests indicated that it was cocaine.
The police have not been able to confirm the quantity of the drug found in her possession.
Miss Hilton had previously been arrested two months ago during the World Cup in South Africa for marijuana possession.
Along with a friend, she faced accusations of having the drug at the Brazil vs. Netherlands quarter-final, though the charges were subsequently dropped.
In June 2007, the hotel heiress was also arrested for driving offences.
After approximately 23 days in jail, Miss Hilton expressed to US television host Larry King that the experience led her to reassess the significance of partying in her life. She mentioned her desire “to help raise money for kids and for breast cancer and multiple sclerosis.”
