Bobby Brown was overcome with emotion during his onstage performance, breaking into tears just hours after learning of his ex-wife’s passing.
The 43-year-old artist, reportedly ‘in and out of crying fits’ upon hearing the news of Whitney Houston’s death, couldn’t hold back his tears as he sang, expressing ‘I love you, Whitney’ while blowing kisses toward the heavens.
According to a family member, Bobby is ‘shattered and beyond devastated’ by the news, and he had rushed to be by the side of his and Whitney’s daughter Bobbi Kristina, who has allegedly sought medical help after consuming alcohol upon hearing of her mother’s death.
Earlier today, he was seen at Nashville airport surrounded by a large group of people.
His urgent desire to reach his daughter, who was taken to the hospital earlier today, is evident.
Following the heartbreaking news, the teenager reportedly drank alcohol and required a sedative from one of her mother’s associates to help calm her down, leading to her passing out.
It is reported that she was readmitted to the hospital this morning to receive treatment for anxiety and stress, later being discharged later in the day.
Following the news of his ex-wife Whitney Houston’s death, Bobby was reportedly fluctuating between crying spells yesterday.
Nevertheless, Bobby Brown took to the stage to perform with his band New Edition, just hours after the sudden and tragic loss of the legendary singer.
A video uploaded by an audience member to YouTube captured the artist struggling to perform, pacing anxiously around the stage while trying to sing with his band.
Us Weekly reported that fans gave him a warm welcome as he joined the stage late, having apparently broken down moments prior to the performance.
During his rendition of the ballad Tenderoni, a source noted that Bobby broke into tears and invited the audience to sing along while he sobbed.
Ultimately, he was unable to complete the song and left the stage, with the show wrapping up shortly thereafter.
A family member has emphasized that Bobby is ‘shattered and beyond devastated’ by the passing of Whitney.
The source shared: ‘He wanted to inform everyone before it hit the news; he didn’t want any of us to find out on television.
The relative further stated: ‘He could barely articulate his feelings when he called me. He was sobbing, and before the conversation ended, I was crying too. He is inconsolable right now.’
Whitney passed away yesterday afternoon at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles, at the age of 48.
A spokesperson from the local police department reported that emergency services were summoned to the hotel at 3:43 PM, arriving shortly afterward.
Authorities rushed to her fourth-floor guest room, finding security personnel attempting to revive her.
Despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead at 3:55 PM.
The cause of death remains unknown.
According to TMZ, hotel staff noted that the star ‘partied heavily’ with friends the previous night, socializing in the bar and creating quite a commotion.
Throughout their relationship, Bobby and Whitney experienced significant turmoil, heavily intertwined with drug use and marital issues.
Whitney herself acknowledged that she and Bobby used cocaine and marijuana together during their 14 years of marriage.
During their tumultuous years, Bobby faced several arrests related to drugs and alcohol, while Whitney undertook rehab programs on two occasions.
The couple married in July 1992 and eventually announced their separation in September 2006, with their divorce finalized in April 2007.
Three years post-split, Whitney famously reflected on their troubled marriage, stating: ‘He was my drug’.
They share an 18-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina.
Despite their rocky relationship, the family recently came together for a lavish dinner last week.
Whitney appeared joyful as she exited a Beverly Hills restaurant, later followed closely by Bobby and their daughter, who were holding hands as they departed together.
Following her divorce from the R&B star, Whitney secured custody of Bobbi Kristina, while Bobby was granted visitation rights.
Yet, their final public appearance together suggested that past tensions had been set aside.
