Amy Winehouse attempted suicide when she was 10

A new book reveals that Amy Winehouse made her first suicide attempt at the tender age of just 10.

The book, Amy Winehouse: The Untold Story, asserts that the singer’s struggle began less than a year after her father Mitch Winehouse left her mother Janis for another woman referred to as “daddy’s work wife.” According to author Chloe Govan, the anguish from her parents’ split plunged the young star into a cycle of self-harm, ultimately leading her to take an overdose of pills. A friend reportedly discovered her foaming at the mouth.

Amy Winehouse apparently attempted to kill herself when she was ten

“Amy experienced significant pain during her parents’ separation,” a friend recalled. “Although she might have pretended it didn’t affect her, for her, watching her father abandon her for another woman felt like the ultimate betrayal. By the age of ten, she had already had her first spliff and, in the eyes of some, was headed for destruction.”

Continuing the account, the friend who found her after the overdose stated: “I came across Amy doubled over in pain. She was foaming at the mouth and her eyes were rolling back. She had overdosed on pills because she wanted to end her life. She confided in me that she longed for a long sleep.”

The book further implies that Winehouse had a fascination with the notorious ’27 Club,’ aspiring to be remembered like legends such as Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, and Janis Joplin.

Alex Foden, the hairdresser famed for Winehouse’s iconic beehive, mentioned that the singer frequently expressed thoughts of dying young. “Amy always shared with me her belief that she would die young and that she felt destined to join the 27 Club. It seemed like she felt a need to achieve legendary status through her death,” he reflected.
