It has been reported that Emily Blunt is in the running for the female lead role in the upcoming sci-fi film Transcendence, which features Johnny Depp.
Wally Pfister, a longtime collaborator with Christopher Nolan, will be making his directorial debut with Transcendence. Pfister is an Academy Award winner for Best Cinematography for his work on Inception (2010) and has also contributed to Nolan’s Batman trilogy and The Prestige.
In October 2012, it was announced that Johnny Depp was set to star in the film, and this rumor has since been verified. Depp will portray a scientist who, after his death, has his brain transferred into a super-computer by a female scientist named Evelyn.
Blunt is among three actresses vying for the role of Evelyn. She is up against Rooney Mara, known for her role in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, and Rebecca Hall, who will appear in Iron Man 3 shortly. Although Blunt’s packed filming schedule might pose a challenge, a final casting decision is expected soon.
Additionally, sources indicate that Pfister has a role in mind for Christian Bale, potentially creating a reunion of sorts from the Batman franchise, with Christopher Nolan already attached as the executive producer. Filming is scheduled to commence on March 4 of next year.
