Dear Woosy – I’m too ugly to have a girlfriend

Dear Woosy,

I truly wish to feel good about myself and desire a girlfriend, but I believe I’m too unattractive and unexciting.

At 34 years old, I have never had a partner.

When I compare myself to my friends, they certainly appear more appealing and are much more self-assured.

I don’t frequently go out, but on the rare occasions when I do, I usually head to pubs alone. I often find myself in a state of panic, concerned about others’ perceptions of my looks. This typically leads to excessive drinking, and I’ve recently received a diagnosis of fatty liver.

I need your assistance.

Woosy says – When we begin to feel down about ourselves, it becomes all too easy to focus solely on our flaws.

Consider celebrities through the years; many of them are not exactly conventionally attractive. Take the Elephant Man as an example.

What truly matters is their personality.

Even if you are shy, being an attentive listener and showing genuine interest in others can go a long way in attracting the type of woman who could be a compassionate partner.

Is there a skill you could learn that might catch their attention? Magicians often have plenty of admirers.

Why not learn a few tricks to showcase at the pub? I assure you, if while ordering a drink, you suddenly snapped your fingers and appeared on the other side of the bar, people would definitely take notice.

Consider what clubs or activities you might explore that could also be appealing to women.

While meeting new women, strive to show interest in them, no matter how mundane they might seem. Forget about what they might think of you. Exude confidence. If it feels right, a wink may be fitting. You could even consider loosening a few buttons on your shirt.(*). Keep in mind, the worst-case scenario is that a woman hastily leaves the pub in fright and seeks a restraining order against you.

If you still firmly believe that you are that unattractive, consult with your GP, who can refer you for surgery if it’s deemed a legitimate concern.

(*) A note of caution: never, under any circumstance, loosen a few buttons on your trousers unless you are absolutely certain of the situation. Legal representation can be quite costly these days.
