Dear Lily – Give me some tips to save money

Lily

Dear Lily,

At the moment, I’m really tight on money, and I was wondering if you could share some tips for saving. After paying for my TV subscription, buying cigarettes, and covering my 20 lottery lines, there’s hardly any funds left for necessities like the monthly payments for my sports car and the designer clothes for my kids. I’ve managed to save a bit by grabbing our dinner from the chippie every night instead of overpaying for fancy vegetables at the supermarket, but it would be great to treat myself to a small luxury occasionally if my budget allowed it.

Lily says – I receive 20 cents for each year of my age as weekly pocket money. This adds up to a full $2.00 every Saturday, although Daddy insists that I should save it for a rainy day. I’m not quite sure what that means because no one has ever asked me for money when it’s been raining. Perhaps I’m already in big debt to the Rain Fairy, and one day she’ll come to collect, and I won’t have any money to repay her. You see, I usually ignore Daddy’s advice and end up spending all of it on sweets by Sunday evening.
But I’m not too worried. I figure that when the Rain Fairy eventually realizes how much I owe her, I’ll have lost all my baby teeth, and I can just trade them for credit. You don’t seem like someone who has many teeth left, but maybe you could ask your kids for a loan.
Hope that helps!
